What Volkswagen Is Discontinuing for 2027

A look at what is leaving Volkswagen's lineup, and what is staying, at Kunes VW of Springfield in Springfield, IL.

Volkswagen's 2027 lineup loses very little. The ID.4 does not return as a 2027 model (current 2026 inventory is expected to carry it into 2027), and the Jetta GLI becomes a single-trim sedan that is reported to be automatic only. Everything else returns, and the Atlas is all-new. This page covers what is leaving, what is changing, and what carries over, so you can plan your next Volkswagen with Kunes VW of Springfield.

What Is Leaving the Lineup

The ID.4 will not be offered as a 2027 model. Volkswagen says its 2026 ID.4 inventory is expected to support customer demand into 2027, and that a future version of the ID.4 is planned for North America (details will be shared later), so ask us about remaining 2026 ID.4s before they sell out. The Jetta GLI is also changing: Volkswagen says it will be offered in one fully loaded Autobahn trim, and reporting indicates the six-speed manual is gone, leaving the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic as the only choice. That would end manual transmissions across Volkswagen's U.S. lineup (the Golf GTI and Golf R already moved away from the manual for the 2025 model year).

What's Changing This Year

The Atlas is completely redesigned for 2027, with new styling, a reimagined cabin, a standard power liftgate, and a 282-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder (the most ever for an Atlas). Front-wheel drive and 4Motion all-wheel drive both return. The Atlas Cross Sport follows later this year (details have not been announced). The ID. Buzz comes back after skipping 2026, with a new Tourer trim built for overnight camping, and the Taos adds a Sport trim. The Golf R brings back its Black Edition, and the Jetta S and Sport gain upgraded infotainment and keyless access. Trims and availability are still settling in places, so check with our team for the latest details on any model.

What Stays (and What's New)

Most of the Volkswagen lineup is not going anywhere. The Tiguan, Taos, Jetta, Golf GTI, and Golf R all return for 2027, along with the ID. Buzz and the redesigned Atlas. Premium connected services are bundled into a single In-Vehicle Premium subscription for the new model year, and Travel Assist and Emergency Assist are enhanced on the Atlas, ID. Buzz, Golf family, and Tiguan. Service and parts support for every Volkswagen, including the ID.4 and the models leaving the lineup, continues at Kunes VW of Springfield.
